New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's politican who's political future remains unsecured after a report by the state attorney general's office. He sexually harassed almost 11 women including present and former government employees and broke state and federal laws. The 165-page report requested multiple calls for Mr. Cuomo to resign. President Biden said he believed the Democratic governor should resign, echoing a chorus of similar calls by other party officials. Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie (D) also said Cuomo could not longer remain in office, adding that state lawmakers will move forward “expeditiously” with an ongoing impeachment investigation.
But legal experts caution that the value for criminal prosecution is greater than state Attorney General Letitia James' civil investigation, and while her report was backed up by "corroborating evidence and credible witnesses," establishing that Cuomo had committed a crime would require additional scrutiny.
With the publish of Tuesday's independent report, which was overseen by former federal prosecutor Joon Kim and employment lawyer Anne Clark, the district attorney in Albany said his office will begin formally requesting investigative materials from James' office. It also highlighted widespreading efforts by the governor, his staff and close associates to disparage and requtal against one woman who made her allegations public.
The investigators said they verified the claims of 11 women, 9 of whom are present or former state employees, who charged Mr. Cuomo of a range of inappropriate behavior, from suggestive comments to instances of groping, through interviews with 179 witnesses and 10 of thousands of documents.
