The Food and Drug Administration fully approved Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine

 



The  United States Food and Drug Administration approved fully Pfizer-BioNTech's two-dose vaccine 23th August for teenager 16 and adults.  The Pfizer making it the first Covid-19 vaccine to pass this final regulatory hurdle.

While millions of people have already safely received Covid-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some. The Food and Drug Administration approval of a vaccine may now  motivate to get vaccinated. 


A Kaiser Family Foundation survey from June found that 3/10 unvaccinated adults would be more likely to get the shots if a vaccine were fully approved.


Pfizer's Chairman, Albert Bourla told  he is hopeful that the approval will help increase confidence in the vaccine. "Vaccination remains the best tool we have to help protect lives," he told 



Pfizer's vaccine was the first Covid vaccine to gain emergency use authorization, in December. As of Monday, more than 204 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been given in the United States. 


While Monday's approval does not cover young teenager 12 through 15, that group can still get the Pfizer vaccine through emergency use authorization


No Covid-19 vaccines have been approved for use in children under 12. Children are expected later this fall or winter.
